Vote Yes on Issue 8

Issue 8 amends the Columbus city charter to create true City Council districts so that residents from each district–and that district only–will elect their member of Council to build a City Hall that’s responsive and accountable to US. 

Over 250 volunteers for the Our City, Our Say coalition gathered over 23,000 signatures to get this change on the ballot because we believe that all of us should have a say in decisions that impact our lives and future.

The Problem: A Rigged System

In Columbus, we have a rigged City Council election system, that gives the appearance of district representation while maintaining the at-large (citywide) voting system that Columbus residents have worked for decades to end.

City council members are accountable to who elects them. Electing district council members through citywide races designed to ensures that big money donors and a small group of people control the future of our city. Right now, voters in each district are left without a meaningful say at City Hall without the ability to hold their council member accountable.

The Solution: A Simple Fix

This is our city and we all deserve a say.

Creating true City Council districts helps us build a democracy that’s more responsive and accountable to the needs of communities by ensuring that someone at City Hall wakes up every day focused on our community. And, if our councilmember isn’t delivering, we’ll finally have real power to hold them accountable.
